Zimmerman House at 209 “G” Street, La Porte

This house was built about 1896 at 209 “G” Street in La Porte for George Zimmerman, who was Superintendent of the Niles & Scott Wheel Factory. Mr. Zimmerman was born in La Porte in 1855 and had lived here all his life.
He married Rose Debley and they had two daughters, Laura and Florence.
Mr. Zimmerman was known as a faithful long-time employee of the wheel company, and he loved his home.
The house features decorative shingles, a dentil molding in the porch cornice, leaded glass windows, and fluted posts on the wraparound porch.  George Zimmerman died after surgery in Chicago in 1924.
