Water Works Building
This view shows La Porte's Water Works building, the construction of which was provided for by a city ordinance dating from July 23, 1870. The structure was built in that year, and reflects the popular architecture of the tirne. The tall, narrow windows, round arches and windows, bracketed cornice - all are hallmarks of the Italianate style. The Water Works was built on the southern shore of Lilly Lake, just north of downtown La Porte. Notice the elaborate fountain to show off the water-pumping prowess of the city's new facility.
