Hoosier Slide

This photograph of the Hoosier Slide, a large sand dune that once existed in Michigan City, also illustrates how it disappeared.

Through the rail car can be seen a man with a wheelbarrow, mining the sand dune for raw material to be sold off to glass manufacturing outfits. The cottage shows some of the tenuous housing to be found in the area of the dunes at an early date.
