MINIATURES in the MUSEUM A recent donation to the La Porte County Historical Society Museum will form the centerpiece of this display, which will highlight miniature houses and their furnishings in the collection. Currently receiv- ing preservation treatment is a large dollhouse from the 1930's, handcrafted by the grandfather of a La Porte physician who recently donated it to the Historical Society. It features beautifully crafted doors with brass hardware, a "stained" glass window, hardwood floors, and some of its original wallpaper and drapes. The rooms are even fitted out with steam radiators! Other miniature houses in the museum include a sophisticated 1920's house, complete with a formal dining room and a family ready to have cocktails! An exact miniature copy of the 1858 August Blank home which once stood on Highway 20 will also be high-lighted in the display. This house had stood virtually unchanged since its construction, and was accurately copied in miniature by local resident Connie Van Curen, prior to its demolition in 1983. Photos of the original house accompany the display, making an interesting comparison to the model. The La Porte County Historical Society Museum is located at 2405 Indiana Ave., in La Porte. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Admission prices are: $5 for out-of-county residents, $3 for La Porte County adults, $3 for ages 12 – 17, and free for children under 12. Call (219) 324-6767. (The Blank Farmhouse display)
